A Gift of Trees…and So Much More

On March 2nd, volunteers gathered for a Hidden Valley planting “party.” The Foundation received a generous gift of native trees from long-time Mountaineers and Foundation donor Susan Graham. She salvaged the trees from her pasture and potted them for the Foundation to use in our ongoing restoration efforts.

A bunch of tree protectors piled up over some ferns and bushes.

In all, the gift totaled 60 Western redcedars, three Douglas firs, and five big leaf maples. It’s a good reminder that in addition to financial contributions, the Foundation always welcomes gifts of native trees and plants as well as other gifts in kind that help us fulfill our mission and vision.

The generous tree donor receives our monthly newsletter and, in her email offering the seedlings, said that she “appreciates all the work the Foundation does to organize volunteers and restore the Preserve.” For our part, we sincerely appreciate the recognition of the work the board does and the tireless efforts of our volunteers who join us, rain or shine, to support our efforts to improve the health of our landscapes and waterways.

Fulfilling her request to give the trees a “forever home” is our pleasure. Additionally, the offer of future seedlings was made, and we are incredibly grateful. The trees will be tended to and continue to bring shade, sequester carbon, and welcome guests to the Preserve for years to come.

If you know of anyone who would like to receive our monthly e-newsletter or learn about the needs for projects on the Preserve, please feel free to send them our way at coordinator@ketalegacy.org.
