Norm Winn Memorial Projects

This grant will help the Sagelands Heritage Program (SHP) protect and connect shrub-steppe landscapes of the Columbia Plateau in eastern Washington by building relationships and taking on-the-ground action to protect habitat and preserve connectivity so that an array of shrub-steppe species can adapt to a changing climate.

This grant funds 632 hours of backcountry restoration in the Sawtooth NRA and supports overnight hitches essential for efficient trail maintenance and drainage repair.

In partnership with US Fish & Wildlife, this grant will help the Conservancy remove old sewage holding ponds and restoring riparian areas along the Little Spokane River at the Waikiki Springs Nature Preserve.

This grant will help the Enchantments Stewardship Volunteer Program engages volunteers in preserving the Enchantments region of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.

Home Range Wildlife Research: Canada lynx in the North Cascades are increasingly at risk due to climate-driven megafires. This grant will help ensure this keystone species remains a vital part of the North Cascades ecosystem, our research focuses on answering key questions that lead to actionable conservation solutions.

The comprehensive nuisance algae study will help the Deschutes River Alliance and our partners deepen our understanding of the outcomes of over a decade of water quality violations on the lower Deschutes River.

The grant will help AKCEF partner with several local organizations to hold the 2026 Eklutna River Appreciation event.

The grant will help support a 2026 Hatchery Creek Trail restoration project in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, with most of the work to be done by a Washington Trails Association (WTA) “pro crew.”

This grant will help the critically endangered Palouse Prairie. It is one of only a handful of forb-dominant prairies on Earth, and with approximately 1% remaining, its future depends on rapid restoration.

The grant will help support technical analyses and the development of management policy for the Steamboat Creek Basin including the critically important 100,000-acre Moore Steelhead Sanctuary, which is a stronghold for Oregon’s fabled summer steelhead.

The grant will help advance coastal conservation and advocacy efforts that protect Oregon’s imperiled seabirds and their habitats—including the threatened Western Snowy Plover and sensitive eelgrass and rocky shore ecosystems.

Snake River Waterkeeper (Geographic Focus: Idaho) was awarded $20,000 to be used to protect and restore critical Yellowstone cutthroat trout habitat in Spring Creek on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation, including restoring the failing buck and rail fences and reseeding riverbanks with native vegetation. This work includes a partnership and matching funds with Shoshone-Bannock Tribe.
