It’s because of you that we continue to improve the lands and waterways within the nearly 500-acre Preserve and support programs and projects across our region. One of the key sources of funding for our grants and work on the Preserve comes from legacy giving. Our plantings, interns and other programs are sustained by these gifts. And, as Katha mentioned in her opening letter, this is a great month to think about creating or updating your will or trust to align with your legacy giving priorities.
We wrote last month about the recipient of a Norm Winn Grant. This grant was made possible by his generous bequest to KLF with a specific direction to fund conservation programs in the Pacific Northwest region. In addition, Paul Wiseman, one of the founders of KLF, left designated bequests to the Foundation to continue work he believed in – the conservation work he was so passionate about. Norm wanted to enable the Foundation to help conservation efforts throughout the Pacific Northwest. Paul had a passion for conservation education and wanted to assure it continued to be a fundamental part of KLF’s focus after he was gone. These are just two bequests that are making a difference in the work we do.
Bequests of any amount can be designated to fund KLF programs you support – education, Rhododendron Preserve management, conservation efforts or other items that benefit the health of the land and waters and the humans who enjoy them. Or, funds can be added to the KLF general fund to be used for urgent or unique needs, like trail clean-up after last fall’s windstorms.
