The first convertible bench will be installed in the recently constructed Pavilion in Hidden Valley soon. This work can be done thanks to everyone who joined us at our annual Fall for Fish fundraiser. True to our values, we are reusing as much of the material from the former bridge across Wildcat Creek as possible. While the composite Trex boards are easily reclaimed for use in building the benches, the same is unfortunately not true of the pressure treated 2x4s. The majority of the 2×4 pieces are too short to work for the benches. As a result, we will need to purchase or otherwise source enough 2x4s to construct the remaining benches.
If you have any treated 2×4 boards longer than 5 feet that you’d like to donate or contribute money to the Foundation to help offset this expense, please contact us at coordinator@ketalegacy.org. We anticipate some work parties in the future to remove nails, cut the reclaimed Trex boards, and assemble the remainder of the benches. Stay tuned for more details. Meanwhile, we want to give special thanks to Douglas Winder for all his hard work in getting the process figured out by creating the first bench.
These convertible picnic table/benches will be a fabulous help. Although we frequently hauled an assortment of small rugs to the pavilion so that students were not seated directly on the concrete, it was still cold and uncomfortable. With these new convertible benches, we’ll have a more welcoming and comfortable place to learn, relax, and enjoy a picnic lunch.
What a wonderful gift our donors have given to groups visiting the Preserve for education programs. We are so very grateful to all who gave this year, and we hope to see you out on the Preserve this year and at our Fall For Fish fundraiser in October 2025.
